On monogamy of non-locality and macroscopic averages: examples and preliminary results

چکیده

We explore a connection between monogamy of non-locality and a weak macroscopic locality condition: the locality of the average behaviour. These are revealed by our analysis as being two sides of the same coin. Moreover, we exhibit a structural reason for both in the case of Bell-type multipartite scenarios, shedding light on but also generalising the results in the literature [16, 14]. More specifically, we show that, provided the number of particles in each site is large enough compared to the number of allowed measurement settings, and whatever the microscopic state of the system, the macroscopic average behaviour is local realistic, or equivalently, general multipartite monogamy relations hold. This result relies on a classical mathematical theorem by Vorob'ev [18] about extending compatible families of probability distributions defined on the faces of a simplicial complex – in the language of the sheaf-theoretic framework of Abramsky & Brandenburger [2], such families correspond to no-signalling empirical models, and the existence of an extension corresponds to locality or noncontextuality. Since Vorob'ev’s theorem depends solely on the structure of the simplicial complex, which encodes the compatibility of the measurements, and not on the specific probability distributions (i.e. the empirical models), our result about monogamy relations and locality of macroscopic averages holds not just for quantum theory, but for any empirical model satisfying the no-signalling condition. In this extended abstract, we illustrate our approach by working out a couple of examples, which convey the intuition behind our analysis while keeping the discussion at an elementary level.

Monogamy of Correlations vs. Monogamy of Entanglement

A fruitful way of studying physical theories is via the question whether the possible physical states and different kinds of correlations in each theory can be shared to different parties. Over the past few years it has become clear that both quantum entanglement and non-locality (i.e., correlations that violate Bell-type inequalities) have limited shareability properties and can sometimes even...

Locality and the classical limit of quantum mechanics

I argue that conventional estimates of the criterion for classical behavior of a macroscopic body are incorrect, because they do not take into account the locality of interactions, which characterizes the behavior of all systems described approximately by local quantum field theory. Black holes are the only localized objects which do not have such a description. The deviations from classical be...

Quantum Theory from Rules on Information Acquisition

We summarize a recent reconstruction of the quantum theory of qubits from rules constraining an observer’s acquisition of information about physical systems. This review is accessible and fairly self-contained, focusing on the main ideas and results and not the technical details. The reconstruction offers an informational explanation for the architecture of the theory and specifically for its c...

Mechanical Response of a Piezoelectrically Sandwiched Nano-Beam Based on the Non-Local Theory

This article deals with the mechanical analysis of a fixed-fixed nano-beam based on nonlocal elasticity theory. The nano-beam is sandwiched with two piezoelectric layers through it’s upper and lower sides. The electromechanical coupled equations governing the problem are derived based nonlocal theory considering to Euler-Bernoulli beam assumptions and based on the nonlocal piezoelectricity acco...
